| We work closely together to create a warm, supportive and stimulating environment where children can learn to the best of their ability. We take time to get to know each child as an individual, helping them to develop independence, build positive relationships and grow in confidence. | ||||

In Year 4, children continue to develop as increasingly confident and independent learners. They are encouraged to build on their previous knowledge, make connections across subjects and explain their thinking with greater depth and precision.
In English, children explore increasingly rich and varied texts, developing their ability to retrieve information, make inferences and discuss an author's choices. Their writing becomes more detailed and organised as they use paragraphs, varied sentence structures, increasingly ambitious vocabulary and a wider range of punctuation.
In maths, children extend their understanding of place value to numbers beyond 1,000 and strengthen their fluency in all four operations. A key focus is developing secure recall of multiplication and division facts up to 12 × 12, alongside fractions, decimals, measurement and geometry.
Across the wider curriculum, children are encouraged to investigate, question, collaborate and apply their knowledge, developing the resilience and independence needed for upper Key Stage 2.

PE DaysPE days will be communicated through Seesaw. Children should come to school wearing their school PE kit on PE days.
Reading BooksThe children are encouraged to choose reading books that excite and challenge them. Books can be chosen from the class and main libraries when they have finished their current book. Reading records should be updated by the child when they have read. Parents should read with their child a minimum of 4 times a week and this should be recorded in the reading record.
CommunicationSeesaw will be our main method of communication with parents and carers. Please check Seesaw regularly for important messages, updates and information. |

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting children’s learning and development throughout Year 4. By working closely together, home and school can provide children with the encouragement, consistency and support they need to grow in confidence, develop independence and achieve their potential. There are many simple and enjoyable ways to support your child’s learning at home. Reading regularly together, discussing books and encouraging children to talk about characters, events and new vocabulary can help develop reading skills and a love of reading. Children can also practise their times tables, mental arithmetic and problem-solving skills through everyday activities such as cooking, shopping, telling the time and working with money.
Please focus your support on reading regularly and practising times tables. |

In Year 4, we believe that some of the most memorable learning happens beyond the classroom. Throughout the year, we take the children on a variety of exciting educational visits designed to enrich their learning, develop their curiosity and broaden their knowledge and experiences. In Autumn, we have a visit from a volunteer at the Canal and River Trust to support our learning in Geography. We also go on trips to Delamere Forest and a trip to support our Romans learning in history. We go on a residential in the Spring term where we complete exciting activities such as canoeing, climbing, hiking and mountain biking. We work on team building, resilience and independence skills as well as having a lot of fun! |
