Safeguarding at Christleton Primary School

At Christleton Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of our children is our highest priority.

We are committed to providing a safe, secure and nurturing environment in which every child feels valued, listened to and confident that they can speak to a trusted adult if something is worrying them.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. All members of our school community have an important role to play in identifying concerns, providing help and ensuring that children receive the right support at the right time.

Our commitment to safeguarding

We safeguard and promote the welfare of children by:

• providing help and support as soon as concerns or difficulties emerge;
• protecting children from abuse, neglect, exploitation and other forms of harm, including harm that may occur online;
• promoting children's physical and mental health and development;
• ensuring that children are cared for in safe and effective ways; and
• taking action to help every child achieve the best possible outcomes.

Safeguarding is embedded throughout school life. It informs our policies, procedures, curriculum, staff training, recruitment practices, online-safety arrangements, educational visits and the day-to-day decisions we make for children.

A culture of speaking up

We want Christleton Primary School to be a place where children and adults feel safe to speak up.

Children are regularly reminded that they can talk to any trusted adult in school if they are worried about themselves or somebody else. Staff listen carefully to children and take concerns seriously.

Parents and carers are also encouraged to contact us if they have any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child. No concern is considered too small to share.

Our safeguarding policies and procedures

We have a range of policies and procedures in place to protect children and promote their welfare. These include our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, alongside policies covering areas such as behaviour, online safety, attendance, safer recruitment, educational visits and health and safety.

Our safeguarding responsibilities apply both on the school site and during activities undertaken away from school when children are in our care, including educational visits and residential experiences.

Parents and carers are encouraged to read our safeguarding policies, which are available through this website.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

All staff at Christleton Primary School receive appropriate safeguarding training and are required to read Part One of the Department for Education's statutory guidance, Keeping Children Safe in Education, in full.

Staff are expected to understand their individual safeguarding responsibilities, know how to recognise signs that a child may need help or protection, and know exactly what to do if they have a concern.

Safeguarding procedures, key contacts and reporting arrangements form part of staff induction and are reinforced through regular training and updates throughout the year.

Safeguarding oversight

Safeguarding is regularly monitored by school leaders and governors.

The Headteacher meets each term with the school's Safeguarding Link Governor to review safeguarding arrangements, practice and compliance and to provide appropriate challenge and assurance.

The Headteacher also meets regularly with the Health and Safety Link Governor to review the arrangements in place to maintain a safe environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Through this ongoing oversight, we aim to ensure that safeguarding is not simply a set of policies, but a strong and visible culture running through every aspect of life at Christleton Primary School.
