Collecting children and Dropping them off

Do I need to inform school if someone else is dropping my child off?

No. You do not normally need to let us know if another trusted adult is bringing your child to school.

However, if there is any important information about your child that we need to know that morning, or there has been a change in circumstances that may affect their wellbeing or collection arrangements, please let the class teacher or school office know.

Can someone else collect my child from school?

Yes. If someone different will be collecting your child, please let your child’s class teacher or the school office know in advance.

The school maintains information about the adults who are authorised to collect each child. If the person collecting your child is not already known to us, we may ask for additional information or identification before releasing your child.

For safeguarding reasons, children will only be released to an appropriate adult where the school is satisfied that the collection has been authorised by the parent or carer.

If collection arrangements change unexpectedly during the school day, please contact the school office directly rather than relying on a message being passed through your child.

What time can I bring my child to school in the morning?

The school gates and classroom doors open at 8:40am and remain open until 8:50am. The arrangements are the same for children across the school.

Children should arrive between 8:40am and 8:50am and go straight into their classroom, where members of staff will be ready to welcome them.

The gates close at 8:50am, when registration begins. If you arrive after this time, please bring your child to the school office.

Children should not arrive on the school site before 8:40am unless they are attending our before-school wraparound provision.

What should I do if I am unexpectedly delayed and cannot collect my child on time?

Please telephone the school office as soon as you know that you are going to be late. Let us know approximately how long you expect the delay to be and whether somebody else will be collecting your child.

Your child will remain safely supervised while we make appropriate arrangements.

What happens if my child is not collected at the end of the school day?

We understand that occasionally an unexpected delay can happen. If you know you are going to be late, please contact the school office as soon as possible and provide an expected arrival time.

If a child has not been collected and we have not heard from a parent or carer, school staff will attempt to contact the child’s parents and the other emergency contacts held on our records.

Where appropriate, it may be possible to arrange for a child to attend our onsite S4YC after-school provision. This will depend on the circumstances and the arrangements with the provider, and any applicable charges will be made in accordance with S4YC's terms.

A child will always remain appropriately supervised until safe collection arrangements have been made.

If we are unable to make contact with a parent, carer or other authorised adult, the school will follow its safeguarding procedures. Where necessary, this may include seeking advice or assistance from Children's Social Care or other appropriate services.

Repeated late collection may also be discussed with parents or carers so that appropriate arrangements can be agreed.
