Mrs Emma Binns (Chair)

Having attended Christleton High School I then went on to study Business in Nottingham, after which I worked for GE Money in their retail finance sector. Once I had my first child, I took a part time job close to home, which I have left to concentrate on my family. I have 2 children at school, Jack and Penny. Jack attended Christleton Primary School and is now in Christleton High School, Penny is currently in year five.

Christleton Primary is an excellent school, and I became a Governor so I could be part of shaping its future and helping the hardworking staff and wonderful children continue to grow from strength to strength. I am extremely proud to be Chair of Governors at this school.

My responsibilities are Chair of Governors, English, and Policy review.

Mrs Yvonne Gibson (Vice Chair)

I am the LA Governor for Christleton Primary and the Vice-chair of governors. My responsibilities are EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) and SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). Before retiring I was a Local Authority advisor in the Learning and Achievement Branch of the Children’s and Young People’s department.  Part of my role involved developing and managing the Minority Ethnic Achievement Service, this consisted of teachers/consultants, teaching assistants and Project Officers. We supported primary and secondary schools in meeting the needs of BAME pupils in particular those learning English as an Additional Language.  We delivered training, conducted assessments of underachieving pupils and newly arrived pupils and advised teaching staff. We also worked with parents and children in children’s centres

I began my teaching career in the middle of the 1980s.  As a class teacher, I taught across the age range in primary schools in West Yorkshire and the Wirral.  Before teaching, I had various part-time jobs including running a pre-school playgroup five mornings a week in Suffolk.  I have a particular interest in Early Years education and also in SEND.Retirement has enabled me to spend far more time with my four children and ten grandchildren and also, to travel to various parts of the world.

Previous roles/responsibilities: Chair of the Learning and Teaching Committee, Chair of the Staffing Committee.  English.

Mrs Susan Pinner O'Brien

As an educator, I am very passionate about education and inspiring young people to be the best that they can be.I have worked in a wide range of educational settings, which has given me a broad understanding of the educational pathways and trajectories open to children and young people. I have delivered Outdoor Adventurous Activity training to B.Ed. students in both primary and secondary education training. I am employed by Manchester Metropolitan University as a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Physiology. I currently oversee all Undergraduate programmes in the Department of Sport & Exercise Sciences, and, as an applied sports physiologist, I also provide athlete support. In addition to the importance of quantifiable student attainment, I believe that it is paramount that schools also focus on the emotional, behavioural and social wellbeing of pupils, to enable their holistic development.

As a parent of two, I feel privileged that my children are fortunate enough to be educated at Christleton Primary School. In my role of governor I sit on the Teaching and Learning Committee.

Mr Peter Tonge

I have been on the board of governors since 2019 at which time my youngest daughter was in year one. My eldest daughter is a teacher in Derby and my son lives in London.
Prior to standing for the role of parent governor and up until covid related restrictions were implemented, I had been helping with reading in the key stage one classes at Christleton.
One of my roles is that of link governor for literacy. I have a degree in English language and linguistics as well as a TEFL certificate - I have taught English as a foreign language in Guatemala.
Presently I live in Littleton having returned to the area after more than twenty years in London where I worked in construction management. In recent years I have been involved professionally and as a volunteer, in environmental conservation.
On leaving full time education at Christleton High school I joined the merchant navy.

Mr Oliver Mitchell

I have been the headteacher of Christleton Primary School since January 2017. As headteacher, I am automatically a governor by virtue of the role.

I attend all governing body meetings and work closely with the governors to ensure the best outcomes for our children. I have regular meetings with the chair and vice chair to ensure that they are fully informed and involved in the life of the school.

I am responsible for the strategic direction of the school, its management (including managing finances, management of staff and the management of the site), safeguarding and the curriculum we deliver. I am passionate about providing the best education and experiences for our children. I believe that they deserve the very best opportunities, and facilities, and strive to provide this for them. I aim to support each child’s development so they are able to be the best that they can be and develop into confident, well-rounded, happy young people.

Mrs Helen Eaton

I became part of the Governing team at Christleton Primary so I could help by bringing my experience as a Parent, Teacher and Primary Education Consultant, to Christleton to help support the children and its dedicated staff flourish even further. I love the school motto of children aspiring to being the best they can possibly be!
In my teaching role I have taught across all year groups in primary schools across Cheshire. In my last classroom teaching role, I was a “Leading Year Two Teacher” and a “Leading Interactive Whiteboard Teacher” for Cheshire County Council, which involved in modelling good practice.
I am an experienced KS1 SATs Moderator and a KS2 Science SATs Marker. I also attained my National Professional Qualification for Headship.
In the latter time period of my classroom role, I was seconded as a Primary Mathematics Consultant by Cheshire West and Chester, to deliver bespoke mathematics support to schools throughout the county. Following the secondment role, I now support clients, through my own companies, as an independent Primary Education Consultant. Part of my consulting work involves writing and delivering training in phonics and multiplication times tables to primary teachers, students and parents across the UK, as well as producing resources and lesson plans.
I have recently worked with Chester Zoo’s “Learning Team” to create teacher toolkits on “Conservation” and “Sustainable Palm Oil”. Each toolkit contains lesson plans and resources linked to the Primary National Curriculum, providing teachers with a range of resources to help them teach the importance of conversation and sustainability.
I am also a co-director of a family business which specialises in producing fun educational resources for children. Our business is partnered with Sony Music UK’s, Kids and Family label; “Magic Star” and the resources are used by teachers, parents and children globally.
My daughter is currently in year one and it is a privilege to have her at Christleton Primary.

My governor responsibility is science.
