Context for Learning
Our current ‘Context for Learning’ is Fear and Triumph. In the first half term, we will be focusing on North and South America and will move on to look at the Viking's invasion of Great Britain.
Over the autumn term, we use two main texts to support this context for learning. The children will read 'Queen of the Falls' and 'The Lost Happy Endings'. These texts are used as inspiration for the other subjects the children study.
Trips / residential visits
The year five class usually have a residential trip during the summer term. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 this did not take place last year and the establishment used is no longer in business. We are currently working hard to secure dates at another establishment.
During the autumn term, we will be visiting Chester Zoo on Monday 8th November.
We will also be organising an Anglo-Saxon day in school. Letter to follow shortly.
Our class residential will be held at Nant BH Outdoor Education centre between Monday 17th January and Wednesday 19th January. Click the link to see the website: Nant BH and Pentre — Homepage (nwoes.co.uk)
PE Days (When your child will require their PE kit)
During the autumn term we will have PE on a Wednesday (dance).
Forest school teaching (Your child will need to wear forest school clothing - school polo shirt and t'shirt with suitable trousers and shoes)
The children will be taking part in forest school sessions on a Tuesday during the autumn term.

Supporting at Home
Parents are the biggest influence on a child, so it is hugely important that we work together to support each other.
Supporting your child with their reading and homework has a huge impact and is hugely appreciated.
We encourage parents to take the time to talk to their child about what they have done in school and show an interest. Also to become involved in school life by checking the school website, following Twitter and reading the school newsletters.
Parents can also make a huge contribution to the school by supporting the PTA and attending events such as the Christmas fair.
Remember we are there to support each other so we encourage you to contact the school and speak to the class teacher if you are worried about anything.
The documents below will be updated to provide you with current information about the learning taking place in class. There may also be additional resources to support you and your child.
You will also be able to access the Meet the Teacher PowerPoint from September.
