School Uniform and PE Kit

At Christleton Primary School, we believe that school uniform helps children to feel a strong sense of belonging, identity and pride in our school.

We also recognise that uniform needs to be practical, comfortable and affordable. We therefore keep compulsory branded items to a minimum and, wherever possible, families can purchase suitable generic items from any retailer.

All clothing, footwear and bags should be clearly labelled with your child's name.

What is our school uniform?

Our everyday school uniform is:

Children are welcome to choose whichever of the uniform options they feel most comfortable wearing.

Does every item need the school logo?

No.

We deliberately keep the number of compulsory branded items to a minimum to help families manage the cost of school uniform.

The school-branded royal-blue sweatshirt or cardigan forms the recognisable element of our school uniform.

Sky-blue polo shirts and royal-blue PE T-shirts can be purchased with or without the school logo.

Generic trousers, shorts, skirts, pinafores, socks and other non-branded items can be purchased from supermarkets, high-street shops or any other retailer.

Where can I buy school uniform?

Branded Christleton Primary School uniform is available through My School Style.

There is no requirement to purchase generic items from the school supplier. Suitable non-branded items can be purchased from any retailer, provided that they meet our uniform colours and expectations.

Sizing, delivery, returns and exchange information for branded items can be found on the My School Style website.

What footwear should my child wear?

Children should wear sensible black or dark brown school shoes or plain black trainers.

Footwear should be comfortable, secure and suitable for a busy school day.

For safety reasons, children should not wear open-toed sandals, flip-flops or similar footwear.

What does my child need for PE?

Our PE kit is deliberately simple and practical. When it is your childs PE day they are allowed to come into school in their PE kit. 

A school PE hoodie is available through My School Style but is entirely optional. A suitable plain blue/navy alternative may also be worn.

Children do not need a school-branded tracksuit.

We ask families not to purchase expensive or designer sportswear specifically for school PE.

Does my child need a tracksuit for PE?

No.

Tracksuit bottoms and a sweatshirt or hoodie can be useful for outdoor PE during colder weather, but there is no requirement to purchase a school-branded tracksuit or hoodie.

Where can I buy second-hand uniform?

We are keen to make good-quality pre-loved uniform available to families wherever possible.

Our PTA organises second-hand uniform provision throughout the year. We also have a rail of clothes in the school entrance which can be purchased for a small donation.

Please contact the school office for current availability and details of forthcoming sales.

We also warmly welcome donations of clean uniform that children have outgrown.

What bags will my child need?

Children may require a book bag for carrying reading books, reading records and other items between home and school, especially in EYFS.

When children start at Christleton Primary School, the PTA kindly provides them with a Christleton branded book bag.

If a replacement is needed, families may purchase a school-branded book bag through My School Style or use another suitable book bag.

If children are choosing to get changed in school they will need a small PE bag. This does not need to carry the school logo. Branded PE bags are available for families who would like one.

Does my child need to bring their book bag every day?

Children in EYFS should bring their book bag to school each day so that reading books and reading records can move easily between school and home.

Does my child need to bring their PE bag every day?

No.

PE kit can be worn on the days that your child has PE. 

Does my child need spare uniform at school?

Generally, no.

If a change of clothing is unexpectedly required, we will contact parents where appropriate.

If children are taking part in particularly messy activities, outdoor learning or other activities requiring different clothing, parents will be informed in advance.

What should my child wear for Forest School?

When children are taking part in Forest School, they may come to school wearing suitable outdoor clothing.

Clothing should be comfortable, practical and appropriate for the weather and outdoor activities. There is no requirement to purchase specialist or school-branded Forest School clothing.

Parents will receive further information before their child's Forest School sessions.

Can my child wear jewellery?

For health and safety reasons, we ask children to keep jewellery to a minimum.

Small stud earrings and a simple watch may be worn.

Earrings must be removed by the child for PE lessons. If your child is unable to remove their own earrings, we ask that earrings are not worn on PE days.

Smart watches or watches with games, cameras or similar functions should not be worn in school.

Can my child wear shorts in the summer?

Yes.

Children may wear smart navy or grey shorts as part of their school uniform.

Can children wear sandals in the summer?

No.

For safety reasons, open-toed sandals and flip-flops are not suitable for school.

Will my child need any stationery or other equipment?

No.

School provides the stationery and learning equipment children need. Parents do not need to purchase pens, pencils or other classroom equipment unless specifically requested for a particular activity.

What if the cost of uniform is difficult for my family?

Please speak to us!

We never want the cost of school uniform to be a barrier to a child attending school, participating fully or feeling part of our community.

Parents and carers experiencing difficulty with the cost of uniform are encouraged to contact the school office or Headteacher in confidence. We will always try to help.
